September 8: Welcome to Hogwarts

If you haven't already picked up, I won't be blogging every day anymore. I will blog at least twice a week, though -- I promise! So since you last picked through my brain, I've dropped my mom off at the airport, met up with an old friend of mine from Texas, met some more classmates and enjoyed a brew or three, tested out the magic of Tinder (it's a dating app, but it's also a great way to make friends), and explored Harry Potter Studios.

Saturday: Saying adios to my momma was harder than I thought. There were some tears, I'm not going to lie. After watching her walk through security, I got to ride an hour train ride back to my part of town. I was pretty sad, but I was also excited to see how life is going to be without my mom by my side. I spent the rest of the afternoon shopping and then decorating the flat. It's finally coming together and I just love it!

Sunday: I met up with my friend, Tracy. Her and I met my junior year in high school at a People To People event. A few months later we (and 30 other students) left for Australia for a three week student ambassador program. I became really close to her during our trip and we've stayed in contact over the years, thanks to Facebook. She landed Saturday and will be staying here for at least a month. So on Sunday morning we grabbed brunch and caught up. The sun was out, the mimosas were cold, and the conversation was flowing. It was a lovely Sunday! Later that evening, I posted on my school's Facebook page that I was getting dinner with another classmate and that whoever wanted to come, should join. Well only three people replied on Facebook, so the four of us sat down and started eating. As soon as our food arrived two more people showed up. Then three more. Then two more. And so on, until there were 22 of us! We quickly learned that we needed to find a bigger restaurant / pub. So we headed down to Thames River and a drink by the river. Then moved up the river to London Bridge and went to a "club". It's a Sunday, why is a club open? Why was I there? What am I doing with my life? Just kidding. We had a really good time. We were there until two am! I couldn't wait to get home and get to bed. Except I FaceTimed for over an hour.... oops.

Monday: I had four deliveries scheduled for Monday, so I had to be home to sign for it. The problem with the company I bought this stuff from is that they don't give you an exact time for the delivery. They say from 7am to 9pm... which is ridiculous! Luckily though, I received all four deliveries by three pm, so then I was able to explore a little bit before I needed to get ready for my Tinder meet up. As I started to get ready, I became quite nervous. I figured the best way to calm the nerves was to have a drink. Well, I had water, milk, OJ, and soda. That wasn't going to cut it. I headed down the street and picked up some bubbly and beer because I couldn't decide between the two. After a mimosa, or two, I headed across town to meet this mystery Tinder person. After chit chatting for over two hours, I knew I made another awesome friend!

Tuesday: Today was Harry Potter Day! I just made that up, but my classmates and I did go to Harry Potter Studios. Since I've never seen any of the films before, I woke up and turned on Harry Potter. I figured I should at least watch the first film so I know a little bit of what's going on. There were 19 of us who headed to Hogwarts. We got on the bus and the theme music came on, everyone started clapping and cheering. I was so out of place. We arrived to Warner Bros. Studios and started the three hour tour. It was definitely a lot cooler than I was expecting! All of the details are so incredible. We got to see real sets, costumes, masks, and so much more. My favorite part of the tour was seeing the costume area. Specifically the creatures. I don't know the names of them in the movie, so bare with me. But they showed videos of how each costume and mask were made and the amount of time that goes into each one was just amazing. Another room I was just amazed at was the wand store. There were hundreds and hundreds of boxes filled with wands everywhere and we learned that each box was not only different from each other, but was also hand drawn and written. Mid way through the tour we got to taste some Butterbeer... which I didn't know anything about because it wasn't mentioned in the first film, but I still tried it. It was disgusting. Thankfully, I wasn't the only one who thought so. Out of our group I would say half enjoyed it and the other half disliked it. After the tour we took the train back to London, grabbed dinner, and then went our separate ways.

Tonight I'll be awake quite late. I'm in a fantasy football league back home and the commissioner, my lovely cousin, decided to make the draft at 8pm Texas time, which is 2am my time. So I'll be watching the second Harry Potter in the meantime. Stay tuned to see if I actually stay awake for the draft!

Fun Fact: At 6'1, the actor who played Hagrid isn't tall enough to be a half giant, so he has a body double who is 6'10 -- except that still wasn't tall enough and had to wear stilts in his boots. Holy Tall!
